My faith in God, personally, is based on one or two peculiar things, not the belief that we are divine beings, nor the hope in eternity, this earth’s immensity and diversity. The first peculiar thing is that I am nothing. Consider the heavens, the works of His fingers, where the light of the moon and starlight linger. Before such a wonder, my heart must ask too, who am I in this world, and who then are you? We are specks of dust in the universe, the earth’s detail, its beauty, its stories, each different and as deep as they are loud, every speck of dust in this room now. Every speck of dust in this room somehow is allowed to have a voice and a dream. You see, even in our insignificance, we are seen. And it is in being seen that we are made significant, and it is through love that we may love. So if gratitude and love were not the lessons of the story of God for you, well then that teaching was false and misconstrued.
