This Friday, 24 June, I participated in my very first poetry competition. I'm not sure how I feel about competing in poetry, but it was a really cool experience. A bunch of other schools came like Namilyango College, King's College Buddo, Nabisunsa... The competition was pretty tight and the poems were top tier. 

Here's one of the poems I presented.. (PS: I came third place in my category majorly cause of this) 

Oh, I'm Just in the Middle

I find myself to be an extremist,

I'm all in, Or I'm all out,

There's not anything I wasn't serious about,

I'm all in, Or I'm out.

This unfortunately is very un,cool,

Having ideologies and stances on "issues" beyond my reach,

Do you know there was I time, I was convinced I was born to preach?

You're either against or for,

Pro-life or Pro-choice,

Homosexuality or Jesus (who happens to love everyone, wait...huh😂)

You're either against or for,

Ronaldo or Messi,

School or no school,

Religion or no religion.

From an extremist to a group of- indifferent minded people,

I'm disguted by either side,

By the energy we put into what other people do in their lives,

Besides, I'd like to be cool for once...

Not be so endorsed in other people's ideologies, 

Rallying speeches not from my own mind,

But from the Paul's, Peter's and missionaries of a whole different time,

Now listen to this stance of mine.

I've chosen to put my energy into creating and life,

We're all just dogmatised, quarreling on our parents behalf,

And if you frame it in a certain way,

You realise that we could survive either way,

So, what else is there to say?

Hawking's lives without an alter in his house,

Father John somewhere does,

They're both living.

Mrs. P has a vegan diet,

Luombo doesn't,

They are both living

You cannot define for others what is right,

If you've found your peace, that's fine, 

But be quiet about the problem with mine.

My goal now is to be good,

And to do good through my actions and things I make,

Not by persuading others ever so ferverently, into reading a book, 

Or showing them the light, by explaining how they should look,

It's not that I don't have values, I do-

I just don't see the point in arguing, don't you?

Life's too short to use your wit on worn out debate motions,

It's getting old and even more unproductive.

So me?, 

Man- I'm just in the middle of things-

Creating and all.
