PHILE
My faith in God, personally,
is based on one or two peculiar things,
not the belief that we are divine beings,
nor the hope in eternity,
this earth’s immensity and diversity.
The first peculiar thing
is that I am nothing.
Consider the heavens,
the works of His fingers,
where the light of the moon
and starlight linger.
Before such a wonder,
my heart must ask too,
who am I in this world,
and who then are you?
We are specks of dust in the universe,
the earth’s detail, its beauty, its stories,
each different and as deep as they are loud,
every speck of dust in this room now.
Every speck of dust in this room
somehow is allowed
to have a voice and a dream.
You see, even in our insignificance,
we are seen.
And it is in being seen
that we are made significant,
and it is through love
that we may love.
So if gratitude and love
were not the lessons
of the story of God for you,
well then that teaching
was false and misconstrued.
Because love IS the commonality,
it is simultaneously our eternity,
a force that you sometimes
can’t describe but feel.
Love is the actions and words
whose impact the devil cannot steal.
It’s what keeps us going when we fall.
Love, not our flaws,
is what connects us all.
So be grateful to exist.
Recognize your finiteness
and live in that bliss.
Do not persist in irritation and anger,
and decide for yourself
what truly matters.
Stand at the crossroads and ask,
because often what we think
is the right path
is anything but that.
In all your capacity,
stay clear of vanity.
Share and give,
value principle, not material,
and then you’ll truly live.
Because there is no "perfect" view,
but fundamentally,
it’s about love,
it’s about God,
it’s about you.
